Robert Parker Jr

Robert Parker Jr. is a leading U.S. wine critic with an international influence, second to none. His wine ratings on a 50-100 point scale and his extremely descriptive tasting notes, published in his newsletter 'The Wine Advocate', helped define modern American wine criticism and are probably the most significant contributing factor in setting the prices for newly released Bordeaux Wines.

Wine Advocate has over 50,000 subscribers worldwide from over 38 countries and Parker’s WA publications, along with his numerical rating system, have resulted in him becoming the most influential wine critic in the world. The scale, now widely imitated in other publications, ranks wine on a scale from 50 to 100 points based upon the wine's colour and appearance, aroma and bouquet, flavour and finish, and overall quality level or potential. Therefore, 51 rather than 100 different ratings are
possible.

Parker – whose nose is insured for $1 million – has the power to make or break wine vintages. Wines that receive the ‘perfect’ Parker score of 100 points can be earmarked for significant growth and some examples of this growth from previous 100-point wines can be seen below.
